1/23/2012 - 3/7/2012 - LOCAL VETERANS ART SHOW - LOCAL VETERANS ART SHOW Veterans Are Encouraged To Enter Artwork Artwork by Veterans will be on display to the public at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center on Wednesday March 7, 2012 from 10 AM to 1 PM. It is estimated that over 40 pieces of art from among 15 different categories will be exhibited. Categories consist of fine art such as painting, drawing, sculpture and photography; applied art that includes ceramics, woodcarving, needlework and leatherwork; and craft kits such as string art, fabric art and wood building. Local artists will judge the artwork to determine first, second and third place in each category. The first place winning pieces will advance on to the national level where they will compete with entries submitted by Veterans from other VA facilities around the country. Veterans are encouraged to enter art work by February 24, 2012. The competition is an annual event that provides Veterans receiving treatment at VA facilities the opportunity to participate in creative self-expression in art, creative writing, dance, drama and music as part of their therapy, and to gain recognition for these artistic accomplishments. First place winners from the national competition will be invited to attend the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival, hosted this year by the VA Boston Healthcare System in Boston, Massachusetts the week of October 8-15 with the art exhibit and stage show performance on Sunday, October 14. 2/6/2012 - 4/16/2012 - Free Fitness Training at Nazareth College - Cape Ability Outrigger Ohana, Inc. and Nazareth College Physical Therapy Department are teaming up to provide a free aerobic and weight training program for people with physical disabilities. The winter program will be held on Monday and Thursday evenings from 7-8 pm at Nazareth College. Particpants must obtain their physician's approval prior to joining the program.

9/15/2012 - 16th Annual Rochester River Challenge Outrigger Canoe Sprint Races - A Warfighter Series Event and an inclusive paddle sports event (300-meter sprint races)for people of all ages and abilities provided by Cape Ability Outrigger Ohana, a chapter of Disabled Sports USA. Event begins at 8:45 am with the Blessing of the Canoes. The race venue located at 149 Elmwood Ave, behind the Genesee Valley Complex. Event is open to people of all ages and abilities. No prior experience is necessary; a steersperson and all equipment are provided. PRE-REGISTRATION IS NECESSARY.
